MAINTENANCE INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
The following work packages (WP 0044 00 through WP 0122 00) contain instructions for servicing,
installing, and removing components at the Operator, and Field Level Maintenance.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
GROUND HANDLING
Towing. A drawbar assembly is located at front on the trailer tongue.
Parking. Parking brakes are designed to hold GVW on a minimum of 7-9 percent grade,
pointing either uphill or downhill IAW Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.41.
Hoisting. Four lift arms used for hoisting are found on the trailer.
GENERAL REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS
Work Required. Remove parts if repair or replacement is required. Do not disassemble a
component any further than needed.
Preparation. Before removal of any electrical or air system components, ensure system
component is not energized or pressurized. Disconnect trailer intervehicular cables from towing
vehicle. Relieve air system pressure. Before removal of fasteners (nuts, self-locking nuts) remove
any paint on threads to prevent binding of fastener.
Identification. To ease assembly and installation, tag and mark shims, connectors, wires and
mating ends of lines before disconnecting them. Identify similar parts to ensure correct
assembly.
Position of Valves. Before removing valve handles, mark or diagram their positions when open
and closed. This will help during assembly.
Tire Removal. Before removing any tires, position jackstands under an axle or frame. This will
secure the trailer for safe tire removal.
Location. Before removing cable ties, cushion clamps, hoses, tubing, wiring, etc., note the
location, position and routing to ensure correct assembly.
Data Plate Removal. Remove rivets and data plate from trailer.
WARNING
Wear appropriate eye protection when drilling out rivets. Failure to comply
may result in injury to personnel.
CAUTION
Use appropriate size drill bit when drilling out rivets. Failure to comply may cause
damage to equipment.
Rivnut Removal. Remove rivets and rivnut from trailer.
