GLOSSARY
ALTERNATING CURRENT (ac) - Electric current flowing two ways, continuously,
reversing direction and changing in power.
AUDIO - Portion of soundwaves that can be heard.
BREAK-IN - Ability to enter into or interrupt a conversation.
BREAK-IN OPERATION - The ability of an operator to enter into or interrupt a
conversation between two talking positions.
BINDING POST - Connectors (L1 and L2) used for the connection of wire ends.
CRANK - Handle used to
turn generator, thus creating energy.
DIRECT CURRENT (dc) - Electric current flowing one way and constant in value.
INPUT - Information taken in.
HERTZ - Unit of
frequency expressed in
cycles per second.
KIMPACK WRAPPING - Inside covering used for packing or repacking.
NEGATIVE ELECTRODE - Pertains to batteries - end that does not conduct
energy (usually flat end).
MONITORING - To observe.
OCTAL PLUG - Eight pronged plug that fits into the end of the octal socket of
a battery.
OCTAL SOCKET - Socket which accepts eight pronged plug.
OHM - Unit of
electrical resistance equal to
resistance of a
circuit where a
possible difference of one volt produces a current of one ampere.
OUTPUT - Information given out.
POLARITY - Either positive or negative. Indicates which lead is to be con-
nected to a given point.
POSITIVE ELECTRODE - Pertains to batteries - end that conducts energy (usual-
ly the raised end).
