b . PART NUMBER INDEX. P a r t numbers in this index are listed by part number in
a s c e n d i n g alphanumeric sequence (i.e., vertical arrangement of letter and number
combination which places the first letter or digit of each group in order A through
Z, followed by the numbers O through 9 and each following letter or digit in like
order).
(1) FSCM COLUMN. T h e F e d e r a l S u p p l y C o d e f o r M a n u f a c t u r e r ( F S C M ) i s a 5 - d i g i t
numeric code used to identify the manufacturer, distributor, or Government agency,
etc., that supplies the item.
(2) Part Number column.
I n d i c a t e s the primary number used by the manufacturer
( i n d i v i d u a l , f i r m , c o r p o r a t i o n , or Government activity), which controls the design
and characteristics of the item by means of its engineering drawings, specifications
standards, and inspection requirements to identify an item or range of items.
(3) Stock Number column. This column lists the NSN for the associated part
n u m b e r and manufacturer identified in the PART NUMBER AND FSCM columns to the left.
( 4 ) F i g . c o l u m n . T h i s column lists the number of the figure where the item is
identified/located in Section II and III.
( 5 ) I t e m c o l u m n . T h e item number is that number assigned to the item as it
appears in the figure referenced in the adjacent figure number column.

F-5. HOW TO LOCATE REPAIR PARTS.

When National Stock Number Or Part Number Is Not Known:
( 1 ) F i r s t . Using the table of contents, determine the functional group or
subfunctional group to which the item belongs. This is necessary since figures are
prepared for functional groups and subfunctional groups, and listings are divided
into the same groups.
(2) Second.
Find the figure covering the functional group or
subfunctional group to which the item belongs.
