4-38. V-BELT REPLACEMENT AND ADJUSTMENT.
This task covers:
b. Installation c. Adjustment
General Safety Instructions
Lock Washers (8)
High voltage and exposed rotating parts are
used in the refrigeration unit Personal injury
can result if power is connected
Left side door open
Front bottom door open.
Remove eight bolts (1), lock washers (2) and remove panel (3)
Turn self locking nut (4) counterclockwise enough to allow motor mounting plate (5) to be lifted enough to
slip V-belt (6) off pulley (7)
Slip V-belt (6) over sheave (9) and pulley (7).
Adjust belt tension
Check alinement of pulley (7) and sheave (9) If they are not alined, loosen set screw (10) and move
pulley on AC motor (11) shaft as necessary When alined, tighten set screw
Turn self locking nut (12) clockwise several turns to allow free travel of motor mount plate (5)
Turn self locking nut (4) clockwise to increase V-belt (6) tension and counterclockwise to decrease tension
V-belt tension is correct when 4 lb (2 kg) force is applied to the mid point of the V-belt and it deflects 3/8
m (1 cm) Turn self locking nut (12) clockwise as necessary to allow motor mount plate (5) travel
