11-17. METALLIC WHIP ANTENNA BROKEN
General Information:
This procedure gives splicing instructions for the repair of a metallic whip antenna if all
pieces of the broken antenna are available.
Limitations:
q Slight reduction in reception and transmission range
Personnel/Time Required:
q 1 soldier
q 15 minutes
Materials/Tools:
q Stick, dry, 4 to 6-inch length
q Wire, copper or cable, stripped telephone, WD-l/TT, l-foot length
Other Options:
q Replace antenna with
Procedural Steps:
1. Scrape off the paint 3 to 6 inches from the broken ends of the antenna with sand,
rocks, metal, sandpaper, or a knife. Wipe scraped areas clean.
2. Overlay the cleaned ends. Place a dry stick on top of the overlaid ends and wrap
tightly together with wire.
3. If time and equipment are available, solder the connection.
4. Record the BDAR action taken. When the mission is completed, as soon as
practicable, repair vehicle using standard maintenance procedures.
