Procedure
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent (P-D-680, Type III) is used to
clean parts and is potentially dangerous to
personnel and property. Extinguish all smoking
materials and do not allow sparks or open flame
near the work area. Use skin and eye protection
and work in a well-ventilated area. Flash point of
dry cleaning solvent is 200F (93C).
Disassemble wheel assemblies (para. 4-50). Clean
bearings (12), hubs (13), and spindles (14) with
dry cleaning solvent (item 26, appx. E). Inspect
parts removed for wear, scoring and discoloration,
scratches, and burrs. Repack bearings (12) with
grease (item 12, appx. E).
Check lug nuts and lug studs (15) for proper torque
of 450-500 lb-ft (610-678 Nm). Using a torque
wrench (item 17, appx. B), torque as required if
loose (para. 3-7, 3-8, 3-9, or 3-10).
