4. NO BRAKES OR WEAK BRAKES - continued.
Step 9 .
R e m o v e brake drum (para. 4-38) and check for worn/worn out brake
lining.
a . I f b r a k e l i n i n g i s w o r n o u t , replace brake shoes (para. 4-34).
b . I f b r a k e l i n i n g i s n o t w o r n , go to step 10.
S t e p 10. Look for grease or oil on brake l i n i n g .
a. If brake lining has grease on it, check camshaft O-ring for
damage, replace O-ring if defective (para. 4-35) and replace
b. If brake lining has oil on it, check wheel hub oil seal for
leakage, replace oil seal if leaking (para. 4-38) and replace
c. If brake lining shows no grease or oil, go to step 11.
Step 11. Visually check for broken or frozen camshaft roller.
5. SLOW BRAKE APPLICATION OR RELEASE.
Step 1.
Check air pressure gage on towing vehicle for a minimum of 90 psi.
a. If air pressure
is low, build up pressure to normal level.
b. If air pressure
is low and will not build up, troubleshoot
towing vehicle
a i r s y s t e m . ( S e e maintenance manual for towing
vehicle.)
c. If air pressure
gage indicates normal, go to step 2.
Check air lines and connectors for restrictions and leaks.
S t e p 2.
a. Remove any restrictions from hoses and tighten connections.
b. If air lines and connections are not restricted or leaking, go
to step 3.
Step 3. Check emergency relay valves for plugged exhaust ports.
a. If exhaust port is plugged, clean valve.
b. If exhaust port is not plugged, go to step 4.
