GENERAL
Each maintenance section provides instructions for organizational maintenance personnel. The
following initial setup information applies to all procedures.
Resources required are not listed unless they apply to the procedure.
Personnel are listed only if the task requires more than one technician. If Personnel Required is not
listed, one technician can do the task.
The normal standard equipment condition to start a maintenance task is power off. Equipment
condition is not listed unless some other condition is required.
WARNING
Improper cleaning methods and use of unauthorized cleaning liquids or solvent can
injure personnel and damage equipment. Refer to TM 9-247.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
The cleaning instructions will be the same for the majority of parts and components that make up the
trailer.
The importance of cleaning must be thoroughly understood by maintenance personnel. Care and
effort are required in cleaning. Dirt and foreign material are a constant threat to satisfactory
maintenance. The following should apply to all cleaning, inspection, repair, and assembly
operations.
1. Clean all parts before inspection, after repair, and before assembly.
2. Keep hands free of grease, which can collect dust, dirt, or grit.
3. After cleaning, cover or wrap all parts to protect them from dust and dirt. Lightly oil parts
that are subject to rust.
STEAM CLEANING
Protect all electrical equipment that can be damaged by the steam or moisture before steam cleaning
the exterior of the trailer.
Place disassembled parts in a suitable container to steam clean.
Dry and cover (or lightly oil) all parts subject to rust after cleaning.
