5-11. EVACUATING THE
REFRIGERANT SYSTEM
The refrigeration system must be evaculated to remove all to remove all moisture before it is charged with refrigerant22
Don't evacuate a leaking system. The vacuum created can cause air, moisture,
and dirt to enter system.
a.
Check that system was leak tested and has NO LEAKS.
NOTE
If the compressor was replaced as a result of a burn out, check that compressor burn
b.
Check that new filterdrier was installed. If not, install one.
Check that both service valves and charging manifold valves are closed.

Attach hose assemblies to service valves and charging manifold valves.
d.
Attach center hose assembly to vacuum pump.
e.
f.
Start vacuum pump.
g.
Open charging manifold valves.
h.
Open both unit service valves.
i.
Run the vacuum pump until at least 29 inches of mercury, measured on the gage, is reached.
NOTE
Inability to reach 29 inches of mercury may indicate either a leak or a problem with the
pump.
