Replace guides, valves, and seals.
Step 2.
Replace rings if necessary.
Step 3.
Replace gaskets and seals as necessary.
METALLIC KNOCKING, CLICKING, OR POUNDING FROM CRANKCASE OR CYLINDER BLOCK.

Step 1.
Check for loose piston and connecting rod assembly (para 7-31).
Step 2.
Repair or replace assembly.
LOW ENGINE COMPRESSION.

Step 2.
Clean and, if necessary, regrind valves and valve seats.
Step 3.
Replace rings if necessary. Check condition of cylinder walls.
Step 4.
Refinish cylinder walls. Repair or replace pistons.

Check for dirty, scored, or gummy valve stems or guides (para 7-72).

Replace springs.

Correct clearance.
